How to change image DPI to 150 in the browser

That last part is the whole product. Changing an image to 150 DPI on this site does not resample, does not recompress, and does not upload. A 4.2 MB camera JPEG is still a 4.2 MB camera JPEG. Tools that “convert DPI” by opening the picture and saving it again quietly degrade JPEG quality; there is no reason to pay that cost for a metadata edit.

When 150 DPI is the right choice
150 is not the photo-lab habit. It is the density large-format printers actually specify — coarse enough that a 24 × 36 in poster does not demand an 8K file, fine enough that type and photos still read from the aisle. The reason is viewing distance. At arm’s length the eye can pick out a 300-pixel grid. A few feet back, it cannot. Four jobs show up over and over:
Posters (24 × 36 and similar). A standard 24 × 36 in poster at 150 DPI needs 3600 × 5400 px. The same poster at 300 would demand 7200 × 10800 px — four times the pixels, four times the file, for detail nobody can see from six feet. Poster houses and online large-format shops write “150 DPI, full-bleed, CMYK or RGB as specified” because that is the density their RIP and their paper can hold at that size. A 3600 × 5400 px file tagged 72 claims a 50-inch wall; tagged 150 it claims 24 × 36 in, which is the size the quote reserved. Preflight that checks the integer wants to see 150, not 72 and not 300.
Banners and retractables. Pull-up banners, street-pole flags, and vinyl runs are viewed from several feet, often in motion. 150 is the usual floor; some outdoor shops drop to 72–100 on pieces taller than a person. Sending a 300 tag does not make the vinyl sharper — it just claims a smaller print, or it pads a resample the RIP will throw away. Rewriting 150 keeps the pixels, keeps the bytes, and matches the spec on the work order.
Trade-show graphics. Booth backdrops, hanging signs, and table throws are designed to read from the aisle, not from six inches. Exhibit houses almost always specify 150 DPI at the finished size. A 10-foot-wide backdrop at 150 needs 18,000 px across if you take the number literally; in practice shops accept 100–150 on that width because the viewer is never close. Set the tag to 150 so preflight stops flagging a 72 export from Illustrator or a phone photo used as a panel.
Billboards and distance display. Highway boards, building wraps, and stadium graphics are specified even lower than 150 — often 10–50 DPI — because the viewing distance is measured in yards. 150 is already denser than those jobs need. Use it when the vendor wrote 150; do not “upgrade” a billboard file to 300. The extra pixels will not survive the print and will blow the file size.

150 vs 300 DPI
Same pixels, different claimed inches. That is the entire difference. A 3600 × 5400 px file tagged 150 prints 24 × 36 in; tagged 300 it prints 12 × 18 in. Neither tag adds detail. The one you pick is the one the downstream system asked to see — and, for large format, the one that matches how far away people will stand.

Use 150 when that is the number on the poster quote, the banner RIP, or the exhibit-house spec. Use 300 when a lab, a journal portal, or a marketplace checklist will bounce anything else. Changing the 150 DPI tag vs resampling the pixels
Those two operations are constantly sold as the same thing. They are not.
Metadata rewrite (this tool): the JPEG or PNG keeps every pixel sample. Only the density instruction changes. File size stays essentially identical. Quality is identical because the decoder never runs. Print size shrinks as DPI goes up, because the same pixels are asked to sit closer together.
Resampling (Photoshop Image Size with Resample on, most “enhance” websites): the software creates a new pixel grid. Going from 72 to 150 “the resample way” on a 72 DPI 24 × 36 in image tries to manufacture about 2.1× the pixels on each side. That is a new picture. It can look acceptable or it can look smeared; either way it is lossy, and for JPEG it is a second generation of compression on top.
Use the rewrite when the pixels already cover the print. Use a resample or an AI enlarger only when they do not. A quick test: divide width in pixels by 150. If the inches you get are at least the inches you will print, rewrite the tag and stop. If they are not, no DPI converter will save the job.
